OUR JOURNEY BEGAN WITH 7 PALLETS OF PEAS

Metgin was founded in 1990 by Mehmet Hatay and Engin Yeşilada. The company name was created by combining the last syllables of the founders’ names. Since its establishment, Metgin’s primary goal has been to build a corporate structure that is leading, proactive, innovative, continuously evolving, widely recognized, and success-oriented.

Today, Metgin continues its operations with a commitment to reliability, sustainability, and strong corporate values.

Our Story

Metgin’s initial capital came from the two friends’ own savings. The company’s first headquarters was the garage of Engin Yeşilada’s family home in Kumsal, and this is where the first import, seven pallets of BURCHT peas, was stored.

In 1992, the business began to grow with various cheeses brought in small batches from the Netherlands. By the end of the second year, the two founders could no longer handle sales, distribution and office work on their own, and the first employee was hired. This employee still works at the company today.

In 1993, in line with growth plans, the company visited Anuga in Cologne, Germany, the world’s largest food fair. It returned from this visit having signed a distribution agreement with VONK cheeses.

In 1994, as growth made it impossible for two people to be everywhere, a second employee was hired for the sales team. That same year, the company became market leader with VONK cheeses.

In 1995, the company entered the pastry and bakery sector with the PAKMAYA brand.

In 1997, BAHÇIVAN cheeses joined the portfolio, making METGİN the number one company in the market for cheese sales and distribution.

By 1998, the existing office and warehouses in various locations were no longer sufficient. The company acquired a site in HASPOLAT and increased warehouse capacity first to 500 pallets and, with continued investment over the following years, to 1,400 pallets. By then, the number of employees had reached 25.

In 1999, seeing unmet demand outside the food sector, the company decided to enter this field as well. Its first brand in this sector was HENKEL.

As of that year, Metgin was rewarded for its honest work in the market with seventy-one-fold growth in nine years, becoming one of the largest sales and distribution companies on the island.

In the following years, KATSAN, DANONE, ROKUS, HENKEL COSMETICS and EVYAP joined the company’s portfolio.

In 2006, following the merger of VONK with FRICO under the Friesland Campina umbrella, the FRICO brand was added to the cheese portfolio.

Metgin continued to add new brands in the following years. With TAMEK, YUDUM, KRAFT & KENT (MONDELEZ) and JACOBS joining, the number of products exceeded 1,000.

In 2013, with DOĞUŞ ÇAY, PATOS, CİPSO, ÇEREZOS and CHIPS MASTER joining the portfolio, the number of products rose above 1,200.

In 2014, after the VILEDA brand was added to the portfolio, the number of products exceeded 1,500.

In line with the philosophy that what is earned by the company is reinvested in the company, its people and the future, a facility project with modern, technical infrastructure that would set an example for Cyprus was launched at the end of 2013.

At the beginning of 2019, our building became operational and our JOURNEY TO EXCELLENCE began in our new home.

Metgin invests in its business and its people and never compromises on honesty in the market. It also makes a major contribution to its country by paying its taxes. Ranked among the top 10 personal taxpayers in 2007, 2008 and 2009, Metgin became tax champion three years in a row in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
